BCCI’s 4-day conclave ends: Anil Kumble’s appointment, Mini IPL and other topics discussed

BCCI have also proposed steps to popularise Test cricket in India.

The first BCCI Four-Day Conclave along with the Working Committee concluded in Dharmasala on Friday. The BCCI took many key decisions during this conclave, including the announcement of Anil Kumble as Team India’s new head coach. Kumble will take charge of the Indian team with immediate effect, with his first assignment scheduled to be India tour of West Indies in July 2016. Led by BCCI Presiden Anurag Thakur, the meeting also focused in the domestic structure in India and also ways to keep interests growing in Test cricket. According to a media release from the BCCI, the following points were discussed during the four-day conclave:

• Appointment of Anil Kumble as Head Coach of the Indian Cricket Team was approved.

• Technical Committee recommendation to hold Ranji Trophy matches at neutral venues was approved.

• BCCI will explore the option of hosting Mini IPL overseas in September. READ: Anil Kumble takes on a jumbo challenge

• Working Committee approved the following suggestions of the Junior Committee. 1. Under 19 Cricketer can represent India only once in the ICC Under 19 World Cup. 2. Any player entering the system at Under 19 stage can play only two seasons of Under 19 cricket. READ: Why Anil Kumble is ideal choice for Team India coach?

• To popularize Test Cricket, BCCI will have a separate marketing budget in the coming season. The BCCI and the State Units will work together towards promotion and marketing of International matches.

• BCCI will enter into Venue agreements with the associations hosting international matches in the coming season, defining their roles & responsibilities and minimum standards required.

• Working Committee decided to start a new T20 league in place of Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. First, all state teams will play an Inter zonal league in their respective zones. • Working Committee approved the proposal of Media Committee to issue an Annual Season Media Accreditation card.

• BCCI will start annual awards for state associations in the following categories: Best Website, Best Facebook page, Best Twitter Handle, Best Instagram, Best Media Facility, Best Media Operations. This will encourage state associations to be more transparent and professional.
