Bengal failed to make it the final of Ranji Trophy after being beaten by Delhi by an innings and 26 runs in the semi-final. They will now aim to make the most of the opportunity through Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. Bengal announced their squad for the tournament that begins from January 8 in Ranchi. The squad is more or less the same as that of Ranji. However, Mohammed Shami and Wriddhiman Saha will be missing the tournament as they would be serving the national side in the South Africa tour.
Manoj Tiwary will continue to lead to the pack while Sudip Chatterjee will be his deputy. Ashok Dinda, who was the third highest wicket-taker in the Ranji Trophy, will spearhead the bowling attack. Dinda will be supported by Sayan Ghosh and Kanishk Seth. All-rounders Writtick Chatterjee, Anustup Majumdar and Aamir Gani can also come handy when it comes to bowling. Meanwhile, Ishan Porel who was the third best bowler for Bengal in Ranji Trophy would be missing the tournament as he will be representing India Under-19 squad in the World Cup.
Pramod Chandila and Anurag Tiwary have been included in the squad to fill in the absence of Shami and Saha. Sumanta Gupta has also made the cut to the state side.
