ICC World Twenty20 (T20I) winning captain Darren Sammy has been replaced as captain of the West Indies T20 side by Barbadian, Carlos Brathwaite. The all-rounder who smacked four sixes in the final over of the WT20 finals in India against England to lift the title is the man who has been recommended by the West Indies senior selection panel for the top job. The West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) is more than likely to approve the choice of Brathwaite.  The right-hander will have his first taste of action as leader when the West Indies tackle India in two -T20I matches in Florida on August 27 and August 28. The WICB and Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) recently agreed on playing two T20 matches in America at the end of the four-Test series that is taking place in the region currently. According to The Guardian, Sammy led the West Indies to the WT20 title but criticised the WICB at the post match conference and this did not go down too well with the WICB. As a result he has been removed as captain and Brathwaite will now take over the mantle of leadership. Sammy who has led St. Lucia Zouks (SLZ) in Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2016 can now consider his regional career over.

He made an exit with his team from the CPL as Trinbago Knight Riders (TKT) defeated them by five wickets in the play offs in St Kitts.

Brathwaite has little or no experience as a leader and the WICB will hope that he can quickly learn the tricks of the trade with the next WT20 carded for 2018 in South Africa.
