The Committee of Administrators (CoA) has directed the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to announce the squad for the upcoming Champions Trophy 2017 immediately. CoA has also wrapped the BCCI for not announcing the squad till now, knowing very well that the cut-off date was April 25. The CoA has ordered the BCCI to convene meeting of the selection committee and announce the squad for the tournament. Indian are the defending champions, after the MS Dhoni-led Team India won the Champions Trophy in England in 2013. The tournament will be held again in England, which will commence from June 1, 2017. In a statement to the BCCI, the CoA said, “It would be appropriate to make all necessary preparations for ensuring that Team India can successfully defend its title in the ICC Champions Trophy 2017 which commences on 1st June 2017,” according to hindustantimes.com. “You are aware that the squad representing India at the ICC Champions Trophy 2017 was to be submitted by 25th April 2017 but the squad has not even been selected as yet. Please convene a meeting of the selection committee for selecting the squad immediately. The squad can then be submitted to the ICC without prejudice to BCCI’s legal rights,” the statement further added. The BCCI had threatened to pull out of the ICC Champions Trophy after its demand for revenue sharing was not met by the ICC. If BCCI do go on to announce the squad, this will be the first time Virat Kohli will lead India in a major tournament.
