Chris Morris starred as Highveld Lions stretched their South African Twenty20 Challenge lead to five points with a seven-wicket victory over Central Knights on Wednesday.
The seamer took 4 for 22 off four overs as the visiting Knights posted 136 for 9 in a match initially reduced to 18-overs-a-side because of rain at Senwes Park in north-west university town Potchefstroom.
But a lengthy delay owing to floodlight failure meant the Lions needed 90 runs off 12 overs for victory and they scored 91-3 with four balls to spare and Morris 21 not out.
Gulam Bodi built a solid foundation for the Lions with 40 runs, spiced by six fours, and Morris needed just seven balls to reach his total, including two sixes and a four.
Former England one-day international captain Paul Collingwood and his struggling New Age Impi ended an eight-match point-less run when a fixture against Coastal Dolphins was rained off and the four points were shared.
Lions have 24 points, Northern Titans 19, Knights 18, Western Cape Cobras and Dolphins 16 each, Eastern Cape Warriors 14 and Impi two in the last domestic event after Titans won the four-day title and Cobras the one-day championship. (AFP)
