Cricket Australia has suspended three of its players in regard for betting charges. The three players who have been charged with breaching Article 2.2.1 of the code (Placing, accepting, laying or entering into any bet in relation to the result, progress, conduct or any other aspect of any match or event) are Hayley Jensen (Women), Corine Hall (Women), Joel Logan (Men). Jensen was found guilty of placing bet on Australia-New Zealand Test match in November 2015. Hall placed two bets on Men’s One-Day domestic competition in 2015-16 season. Logan placed two bets on ICC World T20 winner in March 2015. Jensen and Hall are ineligible to play Women’s Big Bash League as their contracts will be cancelled shortly. Logan has a match-by-match basis contract with Future League. He will be unable to participate in any form of cricket for two years. Although, they can return to their respective after a two year ban. Cricket Australia’s Head of Integrity, Iain Roy is very strict when it comes to code of conduct.
Roy told Cricket Australia’s CA official website, “Players in Australia are required to complete an anti-corruption education session before they can compete in any competition, including all players in our Underage National Championships. We continually remind players that betting on any form of cricket is strictly prohibited and this is written into our Anti-Corruption Code. These players have accepted the seriousness of their errors and have voluntarily accepted their sanctions. This serves as a timely reminder to all players in Cricket that the integrity of our game is a high priority and we won’t accept this being compromised.”
