Cricket fraternity react to attack on Jesse Ryder

The cricket fraternity on Thursday reacted on the ghastly attack on the New Zealand cricketer Jesse Ryder, who was admitted in ICU after suffering injuries in an assault in Christchurch.

Former Australian pacer Glenn McGrath wrote on Twitter, “Our thoughts are with NZ cricketer Jesse Ryder & his family. Jesse was assaulted & is in intensive care We wish him a speedy & full recovery.” 

IPL Chief Executive officer Sundar Raman said, “not the best cricketing news to wake upto. Jesse Ryder get well soon.” (sic)

The official account of Delhi Daredevils read, “The #DelhiDaredevils wishes Jesse Ryder a speedy recovery. We join his fans in praying for his well-being.”

Former New Zealand cricketer Scott Styris wrote, “Just arrived in Sydney to the news about Jesse Ryder! C’mon big man hang tough.”

Ace England spinner Graeme Swann expressed, “Shocking news about Jesse Ryder, fingers crossed for a full and speedy recovery for the big man.”

Ryan ten Doeschate, the Netherlands’ cricketer said, “What terrible news for the cricketing world and a too frequent reminder of what scum lurks in society. Get well Jesse.”

The official account of the Indian Premier League (IPL) read, “The #IPL wishes @DijaRyder a speedy recovery. Our thoughts are with Jesse and his family.”

New Zealand cricketer and ex-skipper Ross Taylor wrote on his page, “Thinking of you mate @DijaRyder.”

“Thoughts and prayers go out to jesse ryder and his family.wishing a speedy recovery,” said Indian cricketer S Badrinath.

Australian cricketer Aaron Finch wrote, “I hope everything is alright with Jesse Ryder! Has there been any updates?”

South Africa cricketer Hashim Amla said, “Sad to hear about @DijaRyder .  Hoping he has a speedy recovery.”

Commentator Harsha Bhogle wrote ‘“oh dear, it looks really bad for jesse ryder. my first thoughts on reading the jesse ryder news were about david hookes; a valued colleague and a friend. bars are so so over-rated.”

West Indies all-rounder Chris Gayle posted in a Twitter message: “Will have Jesse in my prayer. Pray for Jesse. Let’s hope he gets better soon.”

Former England skipper Michael Vaughan wrote “Devastating news regarding Jesse Ryder. Just hope he can pull through. Thoughts are with him and his family.”

According to AFP, Ryder was rushed to hospital with a fractured skull following a bar brawl, police and media said.
The attack came just days before the talented Ryder was to take up a lucrative Indian Premier League (IPL) contract.
Police said in a statement they were investigating the early morning incident at a bar in Christchurch and “can confirm the incident did involve Jesse Ryder and that he is currently in Christchurch Hospital”.
Ryder, who has a history of disciplinary lapses and being involved in alcohol-related incidents, was with members of his Wellington provincial side who had earlier been beaten by Canterbury in a 50-over match.
Reports said he was in intensive care.
