Former Pakistan Prime Minister and 1992 World Cup-winning captain Imran Khan expressed how he was disappointed with Pakistan getting eliminated early on in the Champions Trophy 2025, stating that cricket will get destroyed if favourites are put in decision-making process, hinting towards favouritism in the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).
Pakistan is granted the permission to be the hosting nation for an ICC event after nearly 30 years, but the Men in Green failed to leave a significant impact and got knocked out of the tournament within five days.
“Imran says cricket will be eventually destroyed when favourites are put in decision-making positions,” Aleema Khan told reporters, as quoted by Geo News.
Pakistan’s performances in ICC events have not been well in the past few years, as the team has failed to reach the knockout stages of the 2023 ODI World Cup, 2024 T20 World Cup, and the ICC Champions Trophy. Due to this, the PCB has often been accused of favouritism and made some calls that may have helped in the team’s performances.
