Shakib Al Hasan starred with the bat and ball – scoring an unbeaten hundred and scalping two wickets – and Liton Das, who replaced Mithun in the playing XI, scored an unbeaten 94 as Bangladesh beat West Indies by seven wickets at The Cooper Associates County Ground in Taunton on Monday.
Needing 322 runs to win, Bangladesh chased down the total with 8.3 overs to spare and became the first team in the ongoing World Cup to win the match while chasing a 300-plus total.
Before this game, both Bangladesh and West Indies had played four matches, having won one, lost two and one each being a washout.
With a win over the Jason Holder-led unit on Monday, the Mashrafe Mortaza and Co have now moved to fifth spot in the points table with five points against their name, moving ahead of Sri Lanka.
West Indies, meanwhile, are on the seventh spot with three points against their name from five matches. Bangladesh’s next game will be against Australia on June 20 while West Indies will take on New Zealand on June 22.
