Darren Lehmann, since taking over as coach of Australia, has created a niche image for himself as that of a taskmaster who urges players to take the field at all costs and has made statements in the past to the effect that Australia will always play their best available XI without scope to allow fast bowlers rotational breaks. However, the old-school coach, is averse to letting the Australian players going to Bangladesh with a security threat looming over their heads. Lehmann also admitted that as the days were slipping by, the chances of the tour occurring were getting slimmer. ALSO READ: Darren Lehmann excited at prospect of coaching Australia’s new generation

“It’s getting pretty tight now, to be honest,” Lehmann told 5AA radio as reported by cricket.com.au. “At the end of the day we have to wait and see what the boards and the security come up with, but we have to make the right decision for player and staff safety,” Lehmann added. At the same time, Lehmann clarified that he is still hopeful of the tour going through if security risks can be averted. “We’re still on hold. The security guys got back from Bangladesh today so they’re obviously speaking to board as we speak. Hopefully we come to some sort of answer in the next 24 hours or so,” he said.
