Dave Richardson to meet IOC officials for discussion over cricket in Olympics

The ICC has taken a note of the growing demand to include cricket in the Olympics and their top officials will be meeting the representatives of the International Olympic Council (IOC) to discuss about the future course of action.

Dubai: The ICC has taken a note of the growing demand to include cricket in the Olympics and their top officials will be meeting the representatives of the International Olympic Council (IOC) to discuss about the future course of action. T20 cricket has already been a part of the last two editions of Asian Games in Guangzhou (China) and Icheon (South Korea). “The Board noted that as part of cricket’s growing popularity, it had received several approaches from multi-sport organisations and agreed that ICC Director Mr Giles Clarke and ICC Chief Executive Mr David Richardson should meet with the International Olympic Committee next month to find out more about these opportunities,” an ICC release stated. ICC increases award for No. 1 ranked Test team to $1 million

Earlier, the ICC Board today decided to double the prize money of the top-ranked Test team to USD 1 million from its existing USD 500,000 from April 1, next year and also increase investment in women’s cricket by five-fold. According to a media release issued by ICC, “The Board approved an increased allocation of USD 65 million as the prize money for the top ranked Test sides and for men’s and women’s ICC Events during the period 2016-2023. This represents a 41 per cent increase in the total prize money paid to players compared to the previous eight-year cycle.” Ehsan Mani: Pakistan should boycott India in ICC events if they fail to play series in December

The Board received an update on the development of cricket in the USA following the suspension of the USA Cricket Association (USACA) in June. The Board was pleased with the work undertaken, in conjunction with the wider US cricket community, to start developing a meaningful strategy for cricket in the USA, which includes the unification of all stakeholders.
