While David Warner was excluded from the ICC Champions Trophy 2013 match against New Zealand over a bar brawl, Tom Moody expressed that the explosive left-handed batsman’s form doesn’t even deserve him a place in the One-Day side of Australia.
“I think the Warner thing was a blessing in disguise. I don’t think Warner should have played today. I don’t think his form warrants it and I think he needs a timely kick up the backside,” Moody was quoted as saying by Australian Associated Press.
“Not because of his behaviour off the field because I wouldn’t know what that’s like — apart from what we’ve heard just recently. But his form — he’s scored one half-century in his past 10 innings,” he added while commentating during the match between Australia and New Zealand.
Ever since his consecutive tons against Sri Lanka in March 2012, Warner has been subdued with just three half centuries in last 18 innings.
The 26-year-old’s place in the side in the Ashes will be in question too with an exciting prospect in the form of Chris Rogers on the fringes of the squad. Warner averages better in Tests (39.46) as compared to his ODI average (29.81).
Warner was suspended by Cricket Australia (CA) until the start of Ashes and fined for involving in bar brawl with Joe Root.
