Deccan Chargers batsman Cameron White today said his team is mulling strategies to counter the threat of Delhi Daredevils openers Virender Sehwag and David Warner when the two sides clash in the Indian Premier League (IPL) here tomorrow.

Sehwag and Warner played crucial roles in Daredevils’ first win, against Pune Warriors, putting on 75 runs in just seven overs yesterday. “We haven’t had our team meeting yet but I am sure there will be a lot of time spent on planning about those two (Sehwag and Warner). Delhi has a lot of good players, bowlers who can restrict and also take wickets,” White said after a practice session at the Feroz Shah Kotla stadium here.

With three defeats and a win after four games, the Chargers, led by Kumar Sangakkara, are lying seventh in the 10-team league. The solitary victory came against Royal Challengers Bangalore last week, which was also their maiden win at home in the IPL. White, however, felt the former champions are playing well and that the results could have gone either way.

“Although we have lost three games, but we could have won those matches easily. The result could have gone either way. We have shown that we can win at home now. We have a brand new team and it doesn’t matter what the conditions are, I think we have the team,” said White.

“We have a good all-round team and in (Amit) Mishra and (Pragyan) Ojha we have two of the best Indian spinners and two of the best fast bowlers as well (Dale Steyn and Ishant Sharma).”

With not a single team managing to stay unbeaten, the tournament, according to White, is evenly poised at the moment. “It seems everyone is beating everyone and there is no unbeaten team so far. The tournament is wide open and it is the benefit of not starting too well. The top team has two or three wins,” he said.

White was full of praise for teammate Bharat Chipli. “Chipli is one of the leading run-scorers in the tournament. He started with Bangalore so I knew him before we moved here (Deccan Chargers) so it’s good to see him come good. He is doing quite well. He has shown glimpses of what he can do,” White, who is yet to play a game, said.

About the wicket, he said, “Yes (we) saw it briefly this morning. Expect it to be a little low and slow and it will spin.”
