Kuldeep Yadav has dismissed the recent comments attributed to him on India teammate MS Dhoni in which he claimed the veteran was prone to making mistakes sometimes.
New agency PTI had quoted Kuldeep making those comments, in jest, during an award ceremony that swiftly drew backlash on social media. “There are a lot of times he (Dhoni) goes wrong but then you can’t say that to him,” the spinner was quoted as saying.
However, the 24-year-old has called it as ‘rumours’ and ‘false news’ denying having made any inappropriate comments on anyone.
“These are rumours which people love to spread and I have no idea why,” Kuldeep told The Indian Express. “I haven’t given any interview regarding this so I fail to understand as to how the media came up with these comments.”
He added, “MS Dhoni is a senior player and there is no doubt that his tips have been invaluable not only for me but for the entire team. His presence behind the stumps makes our job easy and nobody can change that fact.”
The World Cup-bound chinaman also took to Instagram, posting a story in which he wrote, “Here we go for another made up controversies by our media who loves to make tangy rumors for no reason. Just want to throw some light on the issue that has been proliferated by some people, that the news is totally false. I didn’t give any inappropriate statement about anyone. #Much respect Mahi bhai.”
Dhoni was the skipper of the Indian team that won the 2007 ICC T20 World Cup and then led the side to the ODI World Cup title in 2011. He quit Test cricket in 2014 and then gave up ODI and T20 captaincy in 2017. He now plays only as a player under Virat Kohli’s captaincy for India.
The 37-year-old has only retained his captaincy for the Indian Premier League (IPL 2019) franchise Chennai Super Kings.
