Sri Lanka have included Dinesh Chandimal for their one-off T20I against South Africa. Chandimal returns in the national colours after missing two Tests and four ODIs against South Africa in the ongoing home series.
The 28-year-old is making a comeback after serving ban for breaching the spirit of the game.
Chandimal is part of the 15-man squad for the final leg of South Africa’s tour of Sri Lanka. The T20I will be played in Colombo on Tuesday.
Chandimal watched his team beat South Africa 2-0 in the two-Test series before conceding a 1-3 unassailable lead to the visitors in the five-ODI series. The fifth and final ODI will be played on Sunday but Chandimal hasn’t been recalled for that match.
Chandimal, along with coach Chandika Hathurusingha and manager Asanka Gurusinha were banned by the ICC after they refused to take field during the second Test against the West Indies in June this year. The two-hour drama preceded ball-tampering allegations against the visiting Sri Lankan team as the match officials asked them to use a different ball.
He was was banned from the third Test apart from being fined his full-match fees. He pleaded guilty to the charge (violating the spirit of the game) and then was subsequently banned for two more Tests and four ODIs.
T20I squad: Angelo Mathews (captain), Dasun Shanaka, Kusal Perera, Dhananjaya de Silva, Upul Tharanga, Kusal Mendis, Thisara Perera, Shehan Jayasuriya, Shehan Madushanka, Lahiru Kumara, Dinesh Chandimal, Akila Dananjaya, Jeffrey Vandersay, Lakshan Sandakan, Binura Fernando
