Aaron Phangiso, who last played for South Africa in their One-Day International (ODI) series against India late last year, reportedly created ruckus after consuming alcohol and was barred from flying, while he was returning home after the completion of the series. The incident is reported to have happened on October 26, when Phangiso and some other South African cricketers were flying back home after the completion of the ODI series, which the tourists won 3-2. The cricketers were returning home from Mumbai, and were due to make a stop at Dubai and then carry on to Johannesburg. South Africa toured India in late 2015, in which they won the Twenty20 International (T20I) and the ODI series, but were humiliated in the four-match Test series.
According to the website Sport24, the Afrikaans newspaper reported that Phangiso was barred from flying from Dubai to Johannesburg when he was found drunk and disturbed the fellow passengers. Phangiso was wearing the South African kit, and was almost arrested but an official from Cricket South Africa (CSA) stepped into the scene and pleaded for him to be allowed on the flight.
Upon their arrival in Dubai, an official from the Emirates Airline refused to allow Phangiso on the next flight, suggesting that the South African cricketer stays back for some time, gets sober and return home in the next flight.
Phangiso has played 16 ODIs and 9 T20Is for South Africa. He was axed from the South African ODI side to take on England. The 31-year-old cricketer was reportedly involved in another such incident, when he was arrested for drunk driving in Soshanguvem, a township situated about 25 kilometers north from Pretoria.
