Ellyse Perry, Australia woman all-rounder has called Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) 2015-16 as a watershed moment for women sports. She also said that none of Australian women players have any jealousy or grudge in their hearts against their male counterparts of them getting more money compared to the women folk. Although, Perry has often preferred giving the gentleman’s game more time than football, she continues to play both the sports for the nation. However, she said that she is yet to make a decision over which sport she would like to pursue in the long run. Women’s BBL 2015-16: Sydney Thunder beat Sydney Sixers in final by 3 wickets
In a conversation with Daily Telegraph she said, “Last year and the start of this year has been one of those watershed moments where things have started to click for women’s sport. These are pivotal moments in the professionalisation of sport for women. I don’t think any female players in cricket or soccer begrudge our male counterparts [for what they make], because they provide entertainment and inspiration to a lot of people. No, I haven’t consciously made a decision. I chose cricket this time because it was an international match, whereas the football was a domestic game.” Ellyse Perry: Governor General’s XI, a wonderful opportunity
Perry said that her sporting idols are hurdler Sally Pearson and swimmer Susie O’Neill, “Both personify what it is to be an Australian athlete: fiercely competitive and motivated, but also incredibly fair and dignified.” Perry is widely regarded as one of the finest women cricketers of all time and probably the best all-rounder in the current era. Since she has excelled in two contrasting sports, she is often considered one of the most versatile and gifted sportswoman ever.
