Sydney Thunder has won the inaugural season of Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL). They beat Sydney Sixers by three wickets in WBBL 2015-16 final which was played at Melbourne Cricket Ground on Sunday. Sixers’ skipper Ellyse Perry won the toss and decided to bat first. However, Syndey Thunder women shot them down for a paltry 115 for 7 in their allotted 20 overs. Key wicket of Perry was claimed by Rachel Haynes. Rene Farrell took a low catch at backward point to dismiss Perry. Angela Reakes was Sixers’ top-scorer with 23. For Thuder, right-arm off-break bowler Erin Osborne took a three-wicket-haul while slow left-arm orthodox Maisy Gibson and pacer Farrell picked up two wickets each. In reply, Thunder got off to a good start with their first wicket falling when there were 54 runs on the scoreboard. Rachael Haynes top-scored for them with 37 runs off 50 balls. She was unfortunate to get run out when she had got settled at the crease. Stefanie Taylor and captain Alex Blackwell contributed with 27 and 30-run knocks. Thunder then lost three quick wickets; two of which were run out. Claire Koski and Lauren Cheatle saw them home with three balls remaining and as many wickets left. Medium-pace bowler Sarah Alley scalped two wickets whereas Perry and Marizanne Kapp picked up two wickets each.
