England on Thursday announced their 12-man squad for the two-Test series against New Zealand, which begins on May 21. Adam Lyth and Mark Wood were named in the squad as England will begin one of their toughest summer in recent times against a strong New Zealand side.

New Zealand have already reached England and before the start of the Test series they were scheduled to play two warm up matches, against Somerset and Worcestershire. The New Zealand players, who are busy in the Indian Premier League (IPL), will be joining their national team in time for the series.

With their selection in the 12-man squad, both Lyth and Wood have a chance to make their international debuts. But the buzz around the team selection suggests that Lyth will be the one to earn the debut ahead of the bowler.

Both Lyth and Wood were a part of the England team that toured the West Indies for a three-Test series, which was drawn 1-1. England won the second Test by a huge margin but the hosts bounced back to level the series in the final game.
