Steven Finn was considered as one of England‘s top fast bowlers just a year ago, but he was sent home on Wednesday after failing to figure against Australia.
“England fast bowler Steven Finn will miss the remainder of the limited overs series against Australia,” the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) said in a statement.
The 24-year-old last played in a tour game against a Cricket Australia Chairman’s XI in Alice Springs in November when he returned with figures of no wickets for 61 runs.
After losing the Ashes 5-0, England did not even trust the Middlesex quickie on Tuesday night against the Australian Prime Minister’s XI, which was a modest side.
Media reports say Finn has lost all confidence and rhythm during the disastrous tour Down Under.
One Day International and Twenty20 head coach Ashley Giles however suggested Finn still figures in England’s plans.
“Steven is one of our most talented bowling assets who has played and will continue to play an important role for England,” Giles said.
“He has been working hard over the last couple of months on technical aspects of his bowling and Steven and the coaches all feel continuing this work out of the performance environment will be beneficial for him.”
