England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) announced their squad for the ODI series against Australia. As expected Dawid Malan comes in place of Ben Stoke. Stokes won’t be travelling with the team, that is due to leave on January 2. Malan has been one of England’s top performer in the ongoing Ashes series. He scored his maiden Test century in the third Test at Perth. He also made an impressive international debut in T20Is versus South Africa.
He scored an aggressive 44-ball 78 and was awarded with a Test cap during the four-Tests against South Africa. Since then, he has been a regular in the side, but is yet to play an ODI. With his current form we might see him making his ODI debut. Mark Wood also included in the squad.
Stokes misses out due to his pending Criminal Prosecution Service (CPS) advice on the bar incident in Bristol in September. However, Alex Hales finds a place in the squad despite being suspended along with Stokes.
Liam Plunkett, Adil Rashid, Jason Roy, Sam Billings and David Willey find a place the squad as well.
England’s squad for the T20I tri-series starting on February 3 against Australia and New Zealand, will be confirmed next week. The first ODI to be played on January 14.
England Squad:
Eoin Morgan(c), Moeen Ali, Jonny Bairstow, Jake Ball, Sam Billings, Jos Buttler, Tom Curran, Alex Hales, Dawid Malan, Liam Plunkett, Adil Rashid, Joe Root, Jason Roy, David Willey, Chris Woakes, Mark Wood
