Alec Stewart, the former England captain backs England to dominate Test cricket in the years to come. Under coach Andy Flower and captain Andrew Strauss, England have bagged the number one spot in Test cricket after a 4-0 victory over previous incumbents India at home.

“The lads have earned the right, they’ve put in the hard work and are now reaping the rewards of that work. One of the big things about this England side and the team around them is their attention to detail, they work really hard on all aspects of the game and that shows in their performances which have been outstanding,” Stewart was quoted by skysports.com.

“Everything is now in place for them to dominate for the foreseeable future, they have quality players in the side as well as good young players coming through. If you think of the Australia side under Steve Waugh,  they dominated for a dozen years and this side will want to replicate that kind of success and domination and I think they are capable of doing so,” he added.

The former England stumper also expressed his fears about the future of Test cricket. Stewart said “I think the standard of Test cricket is quite outstanding. But I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t worried about the people who are, or are not, walking through the gate.”

“In England we fill the grounds out; one reason is the capacities are around 20,000 and also the fact that we’re the best side in the world means our supporters want to go and watch us. But for the moment it certainly will survive because if you ask any current player or former player they’d much rather play in front of a full house than one that’s only a third full or so,” he expressed.
