South Africa and Australia were to play what could have been the most exciting match of the league stage on Tuesday, February 25, at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium. However, the match came out to be an anti-climatic one as the match got washed out due to nonstop rain at the venue.
Since there is no reserve day, both the teams shared one point each. Now, both south Africa and Australia have three points and the Proteas are at the top position with the Baggy Greens being at the second.
Washout’s effect on Group B:
The match being washed out means South Africa stays in the first place in the group, Australia is at the second. England and Afghanistan remain third and fourth respectively. This is the current standings before the ENG vs AFG clash on February 26 at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore.
The shared points between South Africa and Australia solidify that the team which loses the match between England and Afghanistan is going to be knocked out of the tournament.
