Afghanistan team has continued their great performance in the ICC events, and secured an eight-run win over England in the 2025 Champions Trophy clash at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. This match eliminated England out of the race to semifinals, and not there are three teams that will battle for a place in semifinals. the teams are between South Africa, Australia and Afghanistan.
Australia and South Africa have both won one match, and one got washed out. Hence both the teams are at three points to their name. South Africa has a higher run-rate, and hence are at the top. Australia follows by being at the second place.
Afghanistan wining over England opened the group, and if they beat Australia, the team will qualify for the semifinal. If Afghanistan wins, they will have four points, whereas Australia will be at three. If England then beats South Africa, Australia and South Africa will be tied at three points each, and the team having the higher run-rate will go through. If South Africa beat England, Afghanistan and South Africa will reach semifinals.
Why Afghanistan might be a threat to Team India:
Indian team is playing all their matches in Dubai, where the conditions are in favour of spinners. Afghanistan team is strong in the spin side, which might result in them posing a strong challenge to India in Dubai.
