Former England all-rounder Trevor Bailey passes away

Bailey played 61 Test matches for England between 1949 and 1958.

87-year-old former England all-rounder Trevor Bailey is reported to have died in a fire at his home in Essex. Bailey played 61 Test matches for England between 1949 and 1958.

 

Right handed batsman and right-arm fast bowler Bailey was instrumental in England’s Ashes triumph in 1953. He served as a club secretary to Essex from 1955 to 1967 and captain from 1961 to 1966.

He retired from international cricket in 1958. Bailey is best remembered for his partnership with Willie Watson for four-and-a-half hours at Lord’s in 1953.
