Former India coach, now working with the Rajasthan Cricket Academy (RCA), Gary Kirsten is a respectable name in the cricket fraternity. It was during his coaching stint that India lifted World Cup 2011, after beating Sri Lanka in the final. When asked about the environment in the dressing room, during his tenure as coach, Kirsten said, it was none other than Harbhajan Singh. The 48-year-old Kirsten who played an instrumental role in India’s World Cup win in 2011, understands how important the mood in the dressing room is for a team’s success. Meanwhile, there have been plenty of people who have praised Harbhajan’s sense of humour, former India cricketer Murali Kartik being one.
“We had great characters too. Bhajji (Harbhajan Singh) was the funniest,” Kirsten said as quoted by NDTV. Although, Kirsten didn’t stop there he also went on to praise current India Test captain, Virat Kohli for his batsmanship. Kirsten said, “Enjoy watching Virat. Love the way he takes control and finish games.” This is not the first time Kirsten has talked about Kohli and his ability to win games for India. He earlier said, “Virat has been a great captain for India. His talent was always unquestionable. He has led by example with his on-field performances. His leadership at the Test level has worked really well for the national team. The best part about Virat is that he looks so inspirational as a leader in the manner he walks in the field.” READ: Murali Kartik narrates how Harbhajan Singh trolled team India
Kirsten was roped in by the RCA, for a fifteen-day camp that is being held from September 5 at the RCA academy in Jaipur. According to sources it was Lalit Modi’s idea to call in Kirsten to work with the Rajasthan Ranji team.
