Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) skipper Gautam Gambhir on Monday expressed his views on the brand ambassador for the upcoming Olympics 2016, and said that ace shooter Abhinav Bindra or some other sportsperson should have been the perfect choice for the role, instead of Bollywood actor Salman Khan. Following Salman’s appointment as the brand ambassador from India for the global event, he has come under heavy criticism from many sportsperson and other celebrities. This is mostly due to Salman’s controversial image owing to his involvement in the alleged hit and run case a few years back, whose trail is still on. Haryana Sports Minister Anil Vij on Monday criticised actor Salman Khan’s appointment as the Indian Olympic contingent’s goodwill ambassador and backed star wrestler Yogeshwar Dutt for the post. “Yogeshwar Dutt forget Salman Khan. You are a real hero, Salman is a filmy hero. Real heroes, not filmy hero will bring medals for the country,” Vij tweeted. Recently Yogeshwar Dutt had said that appointing Salman Khan as goodwill ambassador of Indian contingent for Rio Olympics 2016 was not a good decision, reports PTI. Meanwhile, scriptwriter Salim Khan on Monday defended his actor-son Salman Khan’s appointment as goodwill ambassador of the Indian Olympic contingent, which has been criticised by some noted sports personalties of the country. Wrestler Yogeshwar Dutt and sprint legend Milkha Singh had raised eyebrows over India Olympic Association’s (IOA) decision to go with the 50-year-old Bollywood superstar over a sportsperson. Salim on Monday took to Twitter to support his son, who plays a wrestler in his upcoming film “Sultan”, while also taking potshots at Milkha Singh, added PTI.
