Gautam Gambhir played a captain’s knock as defending chmapions, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) beat Delhi Daredevils (DD) in match 17 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2015 at the Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium in Delhi on Monday. Earlier, KKR captain, Gautam Gambhir won the toss and elected to bowl first as both the teams went with an unchanged squad from their previous games following their respective wins. Delhi Daredevils (DD) posted a moderate total of 146, followed by a healthy innings from opener, Shreyas Iyer and Manoj Tiwary for 31 and 32, respectively, while Morne Morkel and Piyush Chawla claimed a couple of wickets each for KKR to restrict them to the total. KKR began the chase on a convincing note, with opener, Robin Uthappa and Gambhir, getting off to a good start and putting up 31 runs on the board, before Uthappa was dismissed for 13 by Dominic Muthuswami, after being caught by JP Duminy at mid-off. However, the next pair of the skipper and Suryakumar Yadav was able to put up a healthy stand of 48 runs, before Yadav fell to fast-bowler, Nathan Coulter-Nile after a faint outside edge went straight to wicketkeeper, Kedar Jadhav, as the score read 79 for the loss of three in 10 overs. It was the pair of the skipper and Yusuf Pathan that put on the crucial 29 runs as Gambhir scored his 26th half-century of the tournament in the process off 38 deliveries including eight boundaries along with a strike rate of 122.44. Gambhir was dismissed for 60 as the score read 108 in the 14th. The final pair of Yusuf Pathan and Ryan ten Doeschate saw KKR home as they comfortably won their third game of the tournament by a six-wickets.
