Gemini Arabians registered a mammoth 78-run win over Libra Legends in Match 1 of the much hyped Masters Champions League (MCL) 2016 at the Dubai Sports Complex on Wednesday. Kyle Mills, Rana Naved-ul-Hasan and Muttiah Muralitharan claimed two wickets each, while Kumar Sangakkara‘s cameo of 86 was enough to tame the Legends. Earlier, Legends skipper won the toss and elected to feild first, and in what turned out to be a horrible decision, it as the Arabians, who posted a mammoth total of 234 for the loss of three wickets, courtesy of Sangakkara’s cameo. The Legends began the chase on a shaky note as it was the opener in the form of skipper Kallis, who was dismissed in the third over for mere 14 by Kyle Mills, and was soon followed by Taufeeq Umar, Michael Lumb and Marcus North in the consecutive overs for six, 17 and five, respectively, as the Legends looked in all sorts of trouble in pursuit of the chase of the mammoth total, as the score read 43 for the loss of four in six overs.
It was followed by a 53-run stand between Ryan ten Doeschate and Sean Ervine, before Ervine fell for 22 in the 12th over, while ten Doeschate score his half-century and fell for 53 in the 19th over, as it preceded the 57-run stand between him and Tim Ambrose. Ambrose fell in the 19th over for 30, followed Simon Katich for mere four in the final over, as the Arabins comfortable sailed to a 78-run win over the Legends. Arabians’ Sangakkara was adjudged the Man of the Match for his match-winning knock of 86.
