On a high after their morale-boosting win over India in the fourth One-Day International, West Indies coach Ottis Gibson expects another impressive show from his wards in the fifth and final match of the series at Sabina Park here on Thursday.
Down 0-3 in the series, West Indies produced an inspiring performance to thrash India by a massive 103 runs in the fourth ODI in Antigua on Monday.
“We may have lost the one-day series, but as in the last game which we won, we still want to come off the series on a high,” said Gibson ahead of Thursday’s game.
“We might be struggling a bit right now, but it is a work in progress, and our intention is to continue to work hard on trying to find the right combinations as heading into the Test series we are looking to turn things around,” he added.
After losing the series to a second string Indian side, West Indies would be hoping to gain some psychological edge over India before the Test series which begins on June 20.
Gibson, however, appeared miffed when asked about explosive opener Chris Gayle, who was once again left out of the 13-member West Indies squad for the final one-dayer.
“Gayle would enhance any team but he is not here so we have to get on with it,” the coach said.
Gayle was ignored from the ODI squad after he crticised the West Indies Cricket Board for its callous attitude towards his recovery from an injury, the coaching style of Gibson and the appointment of Darren Sammy as captain.
