Australian fast bowler Jackson Bird had a successful start to his career against Sri Lanka as the Tasmanian finished with the man-of-the-match award in his second Test at SCG, an offer to play English county cricket and a comparison to Australian legend Glenn Mcgrath.
”I have tried to take not too much notice of it, although it’s nice to be compared to Glenn because he’s probably the best fast bowler of all time. But when I saw that I figured it was best to look the other way and to not get too carried away,” he said, as reported by Sydney Morning Herald
The 26-year-old who has done well to be in contention for Australia tour of India in March said it was humbling to be compared with Mcgrath.
Bird said that his immediate focus was to do well for Melbourne Stars and Tasmania in the Sheffield Shield.
”People have asked if it is hard to focus after the Test, but it’s not. Cricket is my job now and I have to learn how to make the transition from team to team. It’s easy to come back and play for the Stars because it’s a professional operation and has a good bunch of blokes. I’m looking forward to playing for Tasmania when the Sheffield Shield resumes.”
