Ravindra Jadeja, born December 6, 1988, celebrates his 27th birthday on Sunday. Jadeja, who is currently playing for India in the fourth and final Test of the Gandhi-Mandela series against South Africa, has been hugely successful in the series so far. His Test teammates Virat Kohli, Cheteshwar Pujara, Murali Vijay, Ishant Sharma, and Ajinkya Rahane wished him in a video released by bcci.tv. Jadeja is the second-highest wicket-taker of the series behind Ravichandran Ashwin, and has already taken two five-wicket hauls with one more innings in which to add to his tally. He has also scored a lot of useful runs down the order in trying conditions. In what has been largely a low-scoring series, Jadeja often made vital contributions even when the top order failed. Jadeja had been out of India’s Test and One-Day International (ODI) teams since being dropped after ICC Cricket World Cup 2015. He played Indian Premier League (IPL) 2015 after that, but was not selected for India’s tours to Bangladesh or Zimbabwe, with India opting for Harbhajan Singh again. Jadeja spent his time out of the Indian team by relaxing and not thinking too much about the game. The result was that he came back rejuvenated, and ended up snaring seven consecutive five-wicket hauls in Ranji Trophy 2015-16. To add to that he scored a few half-centuries as well. India have already won the ongoing Gandhi-Mandela series after winning the first and third Tests, with the second match ending in a draw. They are on course to win the fourth Test as well, having taken a 400-run lead with the struggling South Africa having to bat last.
