Hardik Pandya and Pawan Negi were included as India announced 15-man squad for ICC World T20 2016. India’s squad does not have too many changes from the squad that featured in the recently ended three-match Twenty20 International (T20I) series against Australia Down Under. With the obvious inclusion of MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli, Shikhar Dhawan, Rohit Sharma, Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin, Mohammad Shami was recalled after a very long time. Negi who has been consistent for his India Premier League (IPL) franchise Chennai Super Kings (CSK) was picked for India’s upcoming three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka. The ICC World T20 is scheduled to be played from March 15 and the final will played on April 3 at the iconic Eden Gardens. India were the champions of the inaugural edition of world T20 in 2007. They had defeated Pakistan in the final at Jonesburg. The next edition saw Pakistan becoming the world champions. In 2010, Australia and England played the final with the latter finally winning an ICC event. West Indies and Sri Lanka won the next two editions (2012 and 2014) of the World T20. Sri Lanka beat India in teh final to lift the coveted trophy at home in 2014.

 

The three-match T20 series against Sri Lanka that will be played from February 9 and this is supposed to be a preparatory series before the big event. The Sri Lanka series will be followed by Asia Cup. It is going to be played as a 20-over format for the first time because of the upcoming World T20. It is being hosted once again by Bangladesh and will feature India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka along with the hosts. United Arab Emirates (UAE), Nepal, Hong Kong and Afghanistan will play the qualifiers and one of these sides will play in the Asia Cup.
