Irfan Pathan‘s fiery spell has put Jammu and Kashmir in a strong position that left Haryana needing 173 runs more to win with six wickets in hand in their Ranji Trophy round 6 Group C encounter in Rohtak.

Chasing 222 runs to win, Haryana’s top-order was wiped out thanks to Pathan who first removed openers Ankit Kumar (17) and Himanshu Rana (12) and then added two more wickets to his kitty with the scalps of Rohit Parmod Sharma (0) and Chaitanya Bishnoi (14) to finish the day with figures of 4/10 from seven overs.

Earlier, Haryana, after resuming on 129/5, lost their last five wickets for the addition of mere 16 runs. Umar Nazir Mir and Mohammed Mudhasir shared nine wicket between them to bring a quick end to the Haryana innings. Nazir completed his five-wicket haul while Nissar took a four-fer.

Haryana were bowled out for 149 in their first innings, giving J&K a slim but important lead of 12 runs.

Owais Shah was J&K’s top-scorer in the second innings, hitting 71 off 76 with eight fours and two sixes while captain Parvez Rasool contributed with 30.

The visitors were bowled out for 205 in 54.2 overs with Yuzvendra Chahal claiming 4/37.
