England’s teenage sensation Haseeb Hameed will return to India to cheer his team post his surgery for the remaining two Tests. England and India will play the fourth Test at Mumbai, beginning from December 8. The final Test will be played in Chennai from December 20. The 19-year-old will undergo surgery in England, where a plate will be inserted in his little finger in between the two broken areas there. After the surgery, Hameed will rest over the weekend and then hop on a plane to Mumbai. England are already 0-2 down in the five-match series. After drawing the first Test at Rajkot, England lost the second Test at Visakhapatnam by 246 runs and followed that up with an 8-wicket loss in the third Test at Mohali.
Despite a broken finger, Hameed came out to bat at No. 8 for England in the second innings of the Mohali Test and remained unbeaten on 59. His innings helped England set India a target of 104. Vice-captain Joe Root said that he was impressed with the way Hameed has handled himself. “The way he has held himself around the side has been remarkable. For a 19-year-old lad to come into this environment and be so composed and mature. It is great to see someone come in with that attitude,” a report from mirror.co.uk quoted Root.
