Centuries from Hashim Amla and Quinton de Kock once again helped South Africa put up a mammoth total on the board, this time a whopping 385 in the fifth and final ODI against Sri Lanka, at SuperSport Park, Centurion. South Africa eventually finished with 384 for 6 in their 50 overs. They got off to an excellent start with de Kock and Amla both starting with an attacking frame of mind. Despite batting at brisk pace, they did not lose a single wicket in the first 10 overs, reaching 71 without loss. During his innings de Kock became the fastest wicketkeeper to 3,000 runs. De Kock scored his 12th ODI ton in quick time. He was eventually dismissed for an 87-ball 109. Amla, however, did not let that deter him and went from strength to strength, ensuring South Africa posted a massive total. After de Kock’s dismissal, Faf du Plessis and Amla added 63 for the second wicket. Coming after a brilliant 185 in the previous game, Faf found it difficult to get going initially. He recovered, smashing a 34-ball 41 with a four and 2 sixes. Skipper AB de Villiers and JP Duminy did not last long, but South Africa were in an excellent position by then. Amla kept going and the fact that wickets were falling at the other end did not bother him. He played a few innovative shots as well and it came off extremely well. Amla’s innings finally came to an end after mistiming one from Lahiru Madhushanka for 154. Chris Morris and Wayne Parnell in played out the rest of the overs, after Behardien was dismissedafter a little cameo, where he scored 32 off 20.  Amla managed to carry his bat throughout the innings. The Sri Lankan bowling was disappointing once again. Their bowlers had no answers for the powerful South African line-up. They will once again have to have to chase a huge total down. Their batsmen will once again have to put up a similar performance like they did in the previous match.

Earlier, Sri Lanka had won the toss and elected to bat first. Sri Lanka are already 4-0 down in the 5-match series. A win in this match for South Africa, will take them to the No. 1 position in the ICC ODI rankings.
