The above photo is quite historic. It’s probably the first big sports event Sachin Tendulkar was attending in his fabulous career and it was also, probably, the first time Tendulkar — along with his Sharadashram school mate Vinod Kambli — met Sunil Gavaskar.

The event was the Sports Journalists Association of Maharashtra’s (SJAM) annual awards ceremony at Willington Catholic Gymkhana in early 1987 — just after Gavaskar had retired from Tests. Tendulkar and Kambli were very young and were brought to the venue by Maharashtra Times journalist Chandrashekar Sant in an auto.

The photo below shows 13-year-old Tendulkar making what could have been his first-ever public speech.
