Perth: West Indies all-rounder, Darren Sammy, has said that his team have put behind their controversial pull-out from the India tour, which happened last year. The West Indies team cut-short their visit to India in October 2014 following a contractual dispute with their board. With West Indies set to clash India in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 on Friday, Sammy said that the pull-out was a thing of the past and does not haunt the West Indies side. Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the West Indies training session in Perth, Sammy said, “Well, it’s something we have put behind us. Obviously, and I have said this many times before, what happened in India, especially with the relationship we have with India and the way we enjoy playing with India and something like that should not happen. I think the fans were robbed of an opportunity to see two teams that enjoy playing against each other.” Top 10 wicketkeepers in ICC Cricket World Cup 2015

Sammy went on to say that those events will have no bearing on the upcoming clash. “I don’t think that will affect this match — it’s a World Cup stage. We will treat it as another World Cup match and hopefully we could the get the points we need to qualify into the knockout stages.”

Sammy also threw light on the familiarity between the two sides. Majority of the West Indies players are a part of the Indian Premier League (IPL) and that has created familiarity between the to teams. Sammy said, “Whenever you go into a battle, it’s always good to know some strengths and weaknesses of the opposition. It’s something that the IPL has created — it’s an opportunity to play and familiarise with the Indian players but it is vice versa. They too familiarise with guys who play in the IPL and they too will come up their plans. Look all in all, I just want us to have a great game. It’s important that the fans are entertained and hopefully the West Indies come out victorious.”  Darren Sammy on how to beat India at ICC Cricket World Cup 2015
