The International Cricket Council (ICC) is considering the use of “Sniko” in the upcoming Ashes series in Australia later in the year.

“Snicko will probably be the first bit of technology introduced. It’s always been reliable,” ICC’s Chief Executive Dave Richardson was quoted as saying by a Reuters report in CNN IBN

Snicko uses sound from stump microphones. However, the technology has not been used since it delays decision-making.

“There are different types of Snicko used around the world but the one that was used in this series is what they call a real-time Snicko,” Richardson said.

“Without getting too technical it’s quite an involved process to make sure the sound gets to you at the same time and is synchronised perfectly with where the ball is,” he added.

The ongoing Ashes series has been marred by controversies due to the technical shortcomings of Hot Spot.
