In the second warm-up tie of the day, the ICC Women’s World Cup 2017 hosts England took on New Zealand at Derby. Winning the toss New Zealand chose to bat and could manage just 130 runs. It was England’s batting unit that made a mockery of the chase, winning the affair by 7 wickets. The opening English pair of Lauren Winfield and Tammy Beaumont took the game away from their opponents early on. Lauren, in particular took on the likes of Holly Huddleston and Lea Tahuhu deflating their self-confidence. Live Cricket Score, ICC Women’s World Cup 2017, warm-up’s, India vs Sri Lanka
Lauren’s onslaught saw Tammy gain confidence and knock a few boundaries for herself as well. Lunch was taken after 10 overs of play that saw England reach 45 runs for no loss, needing 86 more runs to win.
England came out after the break with Tammy and Natalie Sciver in the middle. Lauren was retired out for 27. While Tammy batted with caution, it was Natalie that launched into the White Ferns’ bowling. In no time the pair had added 50 runs. New Zealand skipper Suize Bates employed all of the teams arsenal but it was to no avail.
Their stand of 65 runs after Natalie fell for 38 off Lea. This brought Danielle Wyatt at the crease. She fell in the very next over for a 2-ball 0 to Leigh Kasperek.
Tammy took all the responsibility upon herself and ensured England Women do not lose any more wicket. She along with Fran Wilson added 22 runs as they chased their target of 131 runs with ease.
Aptly, Tammy struck the winning runs via a boundary to bring up England’s win and her half-century as Fran (8*) looked on from the other end.
Earlier, England bowlers took control of the pace of the match and ensured New Zealand were dented as quickly as possible. Anya Shrubsole, who has been in top form provided her side the breakthrough getting ride of Rachel Priest in the second over itself. Priest fell for a 9-ball 4.
Soon Anya picked her second, getting the crucial wicket of Suzie Bates for 9. It was the pair of Amy Satterthwaite and Katey Martin that ensured their side cross the fifty run-mark. The experienced Jenny Gunn dismissed Amy for 24.
With their side in trouble Katey and Maddy Green calmed things down and added a 42 run stand for the fourth wicket. Just as things looked good for New Zealand, Alex Hartley struck and got hold of Katey for 36.
In the next over, Maddy too departed for 16 after getting bowled by Danielle Hazell.
In no time, Sophie Devine and Katie Perkins were out in the middle. Both batswomen stay lasted only a small time as they fell to Laura Marsh in the same over. First to fall was Sophie for 7, while Katie got knocked over for just 7.
New woman in the middle, Anna Peterson fell for 5 to Laura as well.
Lea Tahuhu and Thamsyn Newton did try to resist the inevitable for a while. Thamsyn became Alex’s second wicket of the innings falling for 4. Lea became the final casualty of the New Zealand innings falling to Jenny for a 15-ball 5; her second wicket. Holly Huddleston remained unbeaten on 2 facing just 6 balls.
For England Women, Laura picked 3 wickets while Anya, Jenny and Alex grabbed 2 wickets apiece and Danielle getting just one.
