Stand-in South African captain AB de Villiers has admitted that his team was let down due to a ‘bad fielding performance’ and ‘wickets at bad times’ in their five-run loss to Sri Lanka in their opening match of the ICC World T20 2014 in Chittagong.
De Villiers, who is standing in for the injured Faf du Plessis, believes that South Africa did not put in their best performance and warned his team that they will have to buck up if they want to achieve success in the tournament.
According to Sport24, De Villiers said that he feels they need to improve their fielding performance as it was one of the main reasons they fell to Sri Lanka in the match, adding that they also lost wickets at bad times, following which they lost the momentum towards the end, which is not a good sign for a team.
Meanwhile, the report said that the team’s doctors are continuing to put in extensive treatment and rehabilitation on Du Plessis, in an attempt to have him ready for Monday’s crunch match against New Zealand.
