In the warm-up game played between New Zealand and Pakistan at Mirpur, New Zealand never got going and could only amass 145 for nine on the board. This is a warm-up match that is taking place for both teams to acclimatise themselves to the conditions before they play in the ICC World T20 2014. New Zealand won the toss and elected to bat.
New Zealand captain, Brendon McCullum was the star performer for them. He mixed caution with aggression during his innings. On a track that that was on the slower side, McCullum had to bide his time, before he got going.
ICC World T20 2014 schedule: Match time table with venue details
The young all-rounder, Colin Munro known for his power-hitting gave him good support by playing a few fine strokes during his innings of 20. Mohammad Talha was the chief wicket-taker for Pakistan by taking two wickets in his spell of four overs. Umar Gul bowled a tidy spell of four overs and took wickets too. Gul showed his class by removing the dangerous looking Luke Ronchi by cleaning up his stumps. Both spinners, Saeed Ajmal and Zulfiqar Babur kept the batsmen on a tight leash.
At Mirpur, New Zealand’s total may still turn out to be a competitive one, as it may not be easy to hit on the up on a slow track.
Brief scores:
New Zealand 145 for 9 in 20 overs (Brendon McCullum 59*, Colin Munro 20; Umar Gul 3 for 16) vs Pakistan.
