South Africa came through in a tricky warm-up tie against Bangladesh A in the ICC World T20 2014. The Proteas won by five wickets at Fatullah on March 18, 2014. South Africa chased down a modest target of 117 with nine balls to spare in the T20 World Cup.

Bangladesh A captain Imrul Kayes won the toss and elected to bat first. The innings did not get off to any solid start as the South African bowlers kept taking wickets at regular intervals. The top-scorer for Bangladesh A was Muktar Ali at No 9 with an unbeaten 35.

Junai Siddique scored 29 at the top of the order and Nurul Hasan scored 25 in the middle-order. The rest failed to get into double figures as Bangladesh A were bowled out for 116 in 18.4 overs.

Dale Steyn and Lonwabo Tsotsobe took two wickets each. Morne Morkel, Wayne Parnell, Imran Tahir, JP Duminy and Aaron Phangiso each took one wicket.

In reply, South Africa lost early wickets in Quinton de Kock (6) and AB de Villiers (4). Hashim Amla (16) and David Miller (6) also fell in quick succession. But a 49-run partnership between Duminy and Farhaan Behardien guided South Africa towards the small target.

Duminy fell 25 off 41 deliveries. But Albie Morkel smashed three sixes and one four to help South Africa win. He ended unbeaten on 27 off 12 deliveries. Behardien was unbeaten on 36 off 31 deliveries.

South Africa’s second and last warm-up match is against Pakistan on March 19 at Fatullah.
