Ollie Pope stood tall for England with a brilliant unbeaten century as the hosts ended Day 2 at 209/3 in Leeds, trailing India by 262 runs. Pope will resume alongside Harry Brook on Day 3. Jasprit Bumrah has been the key bowler for India as he claimed all three wickets in the innings so far. Brook survived a nervy moment late in the day after mistiming a shot, but a no-ball saved him as Bumrah had overstepped.
Earlier, India were in a strong position, led by Shubman Gill’s brilliant 147 (227 balls, 19 fours, 1 six). However, his dismissal triggered a collapse. England bounced back strongly post-lunch, with Ben Stokes and Josh Tongue combining to take eight wickets between them. Shoaib Bashir struck early, removing Gill, while Karun Nair fell cheaply caught by Pope off Stokes for a duck.
