Ben Stokes to Yashasvi Jaiswal, OUT! BOWLED! Midas O Midas, where art thou? England needed a wicket desperately and Ben MIDAS Stokes has delivered! Terrific delivery to end a terrific innings. On a length, around off, Yashasvi Jaiswal looked to drive straight but the ball landed and then seamed away off the pitch, to beat the outside edge. Hit the timber to bring out a roar from the crowd. End of a fantastic 101 from Jaiswal and the hosts break the 129-run stand at last. INDIA ARE 221/3.

Brydon Carse to KL Rahul, OUT! CAUGHT! At long last, England get the opening wicket! A rare mistake from Rahul and it proves to be costly. This seems to be that kind of a pitch where the bowlers might get wickets more because of the batters' mistakes and for the last few minutes now, the hosts have been trying to make the batters play some loose shots. Rahul got away with one earlier but not this time. The ball is full and the line is wide outside off. KL Rahul goes hard on the drive at that but only succeeds in getting a thick outside edge. The ball flies quickly to first slip but Joe Root is alert to pouch it reverse cup. After watching a plethora of balls drop short in the slip cordon at Lord's in the WTC final, this comes as a pleasant relief for the seamers. Carse is overjoyed while Rahul walks off shaking his head. It was a great innings no doubt, but having faced 77 balls prior to this one and made 42 runs, additionally, with less than 10 minutes for Lunch, he would have known better to let the ball go. INDIA are 91/1.

Ben Stokes to Sai Sudharsan, OUT! CAUGHT BEHIND! This time there is bat and Midas strikes in the last over before Lunch! Again, not the best of balls to get a wicket but one can understand the nervousness in Sai Sudharsan. Imagine this - you are playing your first Test for your country and are on 0. You then get a juicy half volley, down the leg side. Would you have the heart to let it go or pounce on the opportunity to flick it away and get off the mark? Sudharsan got two opportunities on the last two balls and unfortunately for him, could not make use of either. He looks to tickle this fine but while he missed on the previous ball, could only get some tickle of the bat on this one. The ball flew behind and the keeper, Jamie Smith, made no mistake, springing to his right to take the catch. The English players appeal in unison but Sudharsan walks off. From 91/0, INDIA ARE 92/2 AND THAT WILL BE LUNCH ON DAY 1!

Shoaib Bashir to Shubman Gill, OUT! CAUGHT! A wicket out of nowhere and Gill will have to wait for his maiden Test 150. Finally something to smile for the home side. Nothing special about the delivery. Flighted, landing nearly halfway down the pitch, outside off. Shubman Gill dances down the track, aiming to go big on the leg side. But he is not to the pitch of the ball and ends up swinging early. There is only one man on the leg side, at deep square leg and Gill is targetting deep mid-wicket but because he is not to the pitch of the ball, he ends up hitting it a lot squarer and finds Josh Tongue at perfection near the square leg ropes. He did not have to move an inch. First wicket to spin in this innings as the massive 209-run stand is broken. Gill departs for 147 and INDIA ARE 430/4!

Josh Tongue to Rishabh Pant, OUT! LBW! Tongue stays around the wicket and hones in on that good length again, but this time, he bowls it outside off and gets the ball to jag back in sharply. Pant hops across and tries to leave but the ball pings him on the pads. There is a huge appeal, and given! A big miscalculation from Rishabh Pant and that could be catastrophic. Pant has a long chat with Ravindra Jadeja and does review it, he simply has to review it. The third umpire is called in and with no shot offered, it's straight to Ball Tracking, which comes up with three reds and Josh Tongue has turned a rather stagnant outing into something fruitful. End of a stellar knock of 134 from Pant, but with the overhead conditions changing, so are England's fortunes. Just wonder, whether that message an over ago seemed to play with the mind of Pant, not sure whether to attack or defend. That's why, sometimes, it is better to leave some players alone.

Ben Stokes to Karun Nair, OUT! CAUGHT! That is a spectacular catch and it is a heartbreak for Nair on comeback. For the second time in two days, a new batter comes with a few minutes to the break and loses his wicket. But while this is Stokes' third wicket, the credit has to go to the fielder, Ollie Pope. Full and wide outside off, there to be driven. Karun Nair goes hard on the drive through the covers and does not bother to keep it down. It seems like he has got enough elevation but Pope at short cover flies for the heavens and plucks it with his right hand, going backwards to his left, out of thin air! Cannot blame the batter much there as the only criticism could have been to keep the ball along the ground but just cannot take anything away from Pope. Nair goes for a 4-ball duck and from 430/3, INDIA ARE 447/5!

Josh Tongue to Ravindra Jadeja, OUT! TIMBER! Josh Tongue with his third wicket of the game and he's making light work of the Indian tail now, albeit Jadeja is a class batter. Tongue bowls it quick and on a hard length around the top of off. Ravindra Jadeja looks to back away slightly and play a late cut but is hurried on. The ball takes the inside edge and crashes back into the stumps. A couple of boundaries from Jadeja, in his knock of 11 runs and England are now one wicket away from bowling India out.

Ben Stokes to Shardul Thakur, OUT! EDGED AND GONE! Ben Stokes with a wicket right on the stroke of Lunch once again and India are going down in a hurry. Just full of a length from Stokes, wide outside off. Shardul Thakur again just extends his arms in hopes of a cover drive without moving his feet and ends up getting a thick outside edge through to the keeper. Jamie Smith gobbles it up to his right and Thakur walks back for 1 (8) as India are 454/7 at LUNCH ON DAY 2!

Josh Tongue to Jasprit Bumrah, OUT! EDGED AND CAUGHT! Easy as you like. Josh Tongue pitches the ball up around off and middle, gets the ball to shape away in the air as well. Jasprit Bumrah is drawn into the drive and ends up getting an outside edge straight to second slip. The ball goes into the bread basket of Harry Brook over there and he makes no mistake. Bumrah departs for a five-ball duck and India are now 458/8.

Josh Tongue to Prasidh Krishna, OUT! BOWLED'EM! Josh Tongue with a flourish towards the end and he ends up with a four-fer. Tongue goes quick and full and gets the ball tailing back into leg stump. Prasidh Krishna leaves a big gap between bat and pad as he tries to swing across the line and is beaten all ends up. The ball knocks the leg stump out of the ground and India finish with 471 runs on the board in their first innings!

Jasprit Bumrah to Zak Crawley, OUT! EDGED AND TAKEN! Just 6 balls needed for Boom Boom to strike! Crawley cannot do a Pant. Just like Pant had a forgettable IPL 2025. Crawley had a forgettable SA20 2025 as well. But unlike Pant, who overturned his fortunes, Crawley has not quite been able to do so. Four and gone for him. That is another peach from Bumrah. He angles this into the right hander from over the wicket, landing the ball on a good length, around middle and off. Zak Crawley opens up and looks to flick but the ball pitches and then straightens, squaring up the already open Crawley. Even Rishabh Pant, the keeper, is expecting the ball to come in as he takes a step to his left. But both, Crawley and Pant are fooled by the straightening of the ball and a leading edge is induced. Flies behind between the keeper and first slip. Because Pant is wrong footed, he does not go for the catch but Karun Nair at first slip is watching it closely and takes it nicely to his left. Crawley departs for 4 and ENGLAND ARE 4/1, TRAILING INDIA BY 467!

Jasprit Bumrah to Ben Duckett, OUT! TIMBER! It just had to be Jasprit Bumrah again! Bumrah spears this one in a bit full and from well outside the off stump. Duckett's eyes lit up as he sees the width and throws his hands at the booming cover drive. However, the ball nips back in, takes the inside edge and crashes into the stumps. Ben Duckett will be a bit annoyed with that but he played a solid hand of 62 (94), adding 122 runs for the second wicket along with Ollie Pope.

Prasidh Krishna to Ollie Pope, OUT! EDGED AND GONE! Prasidh Krishna with the early strike for India on Day 3! Not a wicket-taking ball by any means, though. This is short and wide on off, Ollie Pope hangs back and sets himself up to thrash it away square of the wicket on the off side. Does not manage to get on top of the bounce and the ball grazes the outside edge and goes behind where the keeper, Rishabh Pant, does the rest. Pope departs for a well-made 106 (137). England are now 225/4, trailing by 246 runs.

Jasprit Bumrah to Joe Root, OUT! EDGED AND TAKEN! If Pope got the monkey off his back on the previous ball, India have got a bigger monkey off their back on the next! Number 10. That's the 10th time Bumrah has got Root in Test cricket, continuing to make him his bunny! Loss of concentration for one of England's greatest and one of India's greatest snaps him. On a good length, outside off, Root fishes at it and gets a thick outide edge, more like trying to guide it towards deep third. The ball was actually moving away from him as he played that shot. Just the angle from Bumrah drew him into the shot but it was a poor shot nevertheless. Simple catch to Karun Nair at first slip and the 80-run stand has been broken. Root departs for 28 and ENGLAND ARE 206/3, TRAILING INDIA BY 265!

Prasidh Krishna to Harry Brook, OUT! IN THE AIR AND TAKEN! A brutal heartbreak for the local lad Harry Brook as he departs just one short of his century! A hush falls over Headingley! Dropped not once, but twice, Brook did make the Indian bowlers pay massively, but unluckily for him that he couldn't get to his 9th Test century. He cannot quite believe it and is devastated. Must be kicking himself for not converting this into triple figures. A wonderful innings nevertheless. Coming to the delivery, Prasidh Krishna shoots a well-directed short delivery, right at the bodyline with some good lift off the deck. Harry Brook shapes up to pull the ball, but it comes a bit quicker than he anticipated and he is not able to control that. Gets a top edge that goes straight down the throat of Shardul Thakur stationed at deep backward square leg. Brook, heartbroken, departs on 99 off 112 balls. Prasidh Krishna gets his third wicket and England are 398/7.

Mohammed Siraj to Ben Stokes, OUT! EDGED AND TAKEN! CAUGHT BEHIND! Mohammed Siraj produces a very crucial breakthrough here for India. Ben Stokes is absolutely fuming at himself and tosses the bat up in disgust! Siraj changes the angle and bowls from around the stumps. Lands it on a fractional fuller length, keeping the line just outside off. The ball curves slightly away from the English skipper, who is drawn on the front foot. Stokes has a poke away from the body and an outside edge is found. Rishabh Pant does the rest behind the wickets, taking a regulation catch. Ben Stokes departs for 20 (52). England have lost half the side on 276, trailing by 195 runs. 

Prasidh Krishna to Jamie Smith, OUT! IN THE AIR AND GONE! CAUGHT! An important wicket for India, with the new ball just a few deliveries away! Prasidh Krishna keeps testing the batter by bashing the short length, around off. Jamie Smith shapes up for the pull shot, but doesn't quite time it well. The ball, however, travels towards the deep square leg fence, where Ravindra Jadeja moves to his right and settles under it. But while taking the catch, he loses his balance, probably misjudging the ball's trajectory by a bit and before he goes over the boundary ropes, he tosses the ball up and it is grabbed by Sai Sudharsan, the other converging fielder from deep backward square leg to his right. Sai Sudharsan completes the catch. Now, the on-field umpires want to confirm whether Jadeja's feet were in contact with the boundary cushions with the ball in hand. Replays confirm that Jadeja has managed to release the ball before going over the ropes. A good teamwork there in the deep as Jamie Smith departs on a well-made 40 (52).

Jasprit Bumrah to Chris Woakes, OUT! CLEANED HIM UP! Jasprit Bumrah breaks through for India! End of a fine knock from Chris Woakes. Bowled from slightly wide of the crease on the over-the-wicket angle, on a length, aimed at the stumps, Chris Woakes brings his bat out in front to keep it out. Gets beaten on the inside edge as the ball nips back enough to go through the gap between the bat and the pad before rattling the stumps. Woakes departs for 38 (55). England are now 460/9, trailing by 11 runs.

Mohammed Siraj to Brydon Carse, OUT! TIMBER! End of a vital stand for England! Brydon Carse backs away and ends up giving himself too much room. Mohammed Siraj holds his line and length this time and attacks the stumps with a full ball. Carse reaches out to go through the off side but fails to make any contact. The ball sneaks under the bat to crash into the off stump. Carse goes for 22 (23). England are now 453/8, trailing by 18 runs.

Jasprit Bumrah to Josh Tongue, OUT! CASTLED! Jasprit Bumrah makes Josh Tongue his fifth victim and wraps up the England innings! His 14th five-wicket haul in Test cricket. Coming to the delivery, this is angled in from a bit wide on the crease on the over-the-wicket angle, on a good length, around off, Tongue brings his bat out in front to defend but the ball straightens to go past the outside edge and peg back the off stump. England have been bowled out for 465, conceding just a 6-run lead to India!

Brydon Carse to Yashasvi Jaiswal, OUT! EDGED AND GONE! Brydon Carse with the early breakthrough for England! From around the wicket, wobble-seam delivery, on a hard length, around off, Yashasvi Jaiswal hangs back and is forced into playing it due to the angle coming into him. Stays back and gets his hands high near his chest to defend. The ball slants in before straightening enough to catch the outside edge and the keeper, Jamie Smith, gobbles it up to his left. Jaiswal falls for 4 (11). India are now 16/1, leading by 22 runs.

Brydon Carse to KL Rahul, OUT! DRAGGED ON! A marathon knock from KL Rahul comes to an end. An inning of patience, grit, and he has put his vast experience to good use for his side. Gets a warm applause from the crowd as he walks back to the dressing room. Coming to the delivery, Brydon Carse keeps the line of attack outside the off stump and gets the ball to jag back in a bit on a good length, with some extra bounce as well. KL Rahul is caught off guard with the lift as he tries to cut it on the rise, but ends up playing it tentatively and from close to the body. Gets an inside edge and the ball smashes back into the stumps.  Rahul falls for 137 (247) with India's lead being 339.

Ben Stokes to Sai Sudharsan, OUT! GONE! CAUGHT! Call it a commentator's curse or something else, but Sai Sudharsan has to depart here. Again, Ben Stokes with the golden arm and breaks the 66-run partnership. Brings the angle into the batter, does Stokes, landing the ball on a fuller length, Sai Sudharsan weighs on the front foot to flick the ball into the leg side, but does not quite manage to keep it along the ground and ends up hitting it flat and low, to the right of Zak Crawley at mid-wicket. The English opener bends low and snaffles a good low catch. Sai Sudharsan departs on 30 and India are 82/2.

Brydon Carse to Shubman Gill, OUT! DRAGGED ON! BOWLED! Just 7 deliveries into Day 4 and Brydon Carse has produced an early breakthrough for England, setting the tone for the hosts. Carse steams in from over the stumps, pitches it a yard behind the fuller length, just outside off. It lands and cuts back into the batter as Shubman Gill tries to cut it square on the off side, but the ball is not that wide and hence, he doesn't get much space to work that through. A thick inside edge is found and the ball bumps straight into the stumps. Shubman Gill, who scored a marathon 147 in the first innings, departs for just 8 this time around. India are 92/3, leading by 98 runs!

Shoaib Bashir to Rishabh Pant, OUT! IN THE AIR AND TAKEN! Finally, finally, some respite for Ben Stokes and England. The whole of Headingley is on its feet to acknowledge this wonderful knock from a sheer entertainer! Shoaib Bashir bowls it flat and quick, a bit too full on the stumps, from around the stumps. Rishabh Pant premeditates it and gets low on his knees to slog. Perhaps the ball is too full and Pant does not get hold of it. Ends up airing it off the toe end of the bat and the ball sails straight down the throat of Zak Crawley at wide long on. Rishabh Pant departs for an entertaining 118 (140). India are 287/4, leading by 293 runs.

Chris Woakes to Karun Nair, OUT! CAUGHT AND BOWLED! A soft, soft dismissal and Karun Nair stands stunned as he cannot quite believe it. Chris Woakes bowls it straight and full, on off, Karun Nair taps the front foot out and tries to play the straight drive. Hits it well enough, but does not manage to keep it along the ground, and it goes flat and parallel to the ground to the bowler. Chris Woakes takes a good return catch on his follow-through around his right thigh, and Karun Nair departs on 20. India are 336/6, leading by 342.

Josh Tongue to Shardul Thakur, OUT! EDGED AND TAKEN! Joe Root is not dropping those, but that took him by surprise, possibly because it came a bit quicker than he expected. A wicket nonetheless for England as Josh Tongue gets his first scalp. This is bowled fuller and just around the off stump line with some shape away from the batter. Shardul Thakur is drawn forward to play the cover drive, but gets a thick outside edge. The ball flies straight towards Joe Root stationed at the first slip. The ball goes quickly towards him, around his face level, but Root does well enough to cling on to it as he falls over. Shardul Thakur departs for 4 (12) and from 333/4, India have slipped to 349/7.

Josh Tongue to Mohammed Siraj, OUT! CAUGHT BEHIND! Two in two for Josh Tongue! A painful duck for Mohammed Siraj as he cops a blow on the right hand. He winces in pain as he walks off. A well-directed bumper from over the wicket at the right shoulder of the batter, Siraj hops to get inside the line and tries to help the pull behind square on the leg side. The ball gets big on him and catches him on the gloves. It lobs behind to the left of the keeper, Jamie Smith, who moves to that side and dives to snaffle it with ease. India lose their 8th wicket with a lead of 355 runs.

Josh Tongue to Jasprit Bumrah, OUT! DRAGGED ON! Three wickets in four balls for Josh Tongue and India are folding quickly here. Pitched up by Josh, on off, Bumrah keeps his front leg out of the way and swings to go down the ground. Gets an inside edge that goes back onto uproot the middle stump. Stokes is delighted. From 333/4, India have slipped to 349/9.

Shoaib Bashir to Prasidh Krishna, OUT! IN THE AIR AND TAKEN! Expertly held by Josh Tongue and that's that for the Indian innings! Nicely tossed up by Bashir, on a nagging length, around off, Prasidh sees the ball above his eyeline and goes for the heave across the line. Skies it up towards deep mid-wicket where Josh Tongue is in off the ropes and is looking into the sun. Judges well and puts a late dive to his left to take the catch. He manages to hold on even as his elbow hits the ground. Bashir finishes with 2 wickets. India end with a lead of 370!

Prasidh Krishna to Zak Crawley, OUT! CAUGHT! Prasidh Krishna finds the edge and India finally have a breakthrough! End of a fine knock from Zak Crawley. He has set up the chase nicely for his side. Prasidh corrects his length and goes full this time. The ball moves away in the air and Crawley is lured into the drive. Does not move his feet much and goes at it with his hands. Gets an outside edge that goes straight to KL Rahul at first slip. Rahul stays side on and takes it to his right at chest height. Rahul seemed to indicate that the ball climbed on him. Crawley falls for 65 (126). England are now 188/1, needing 183 more runs.

Shardul Thakur to Ben Duckett, OUT! CAUGHT! Ben Duckett cannot quite believe it! The Headingley crowd rise to applaud Duckett for what has been a knock that is worth its weight in gold. Pitched up by Thakur from around the wicket, around off, Duckett is sort of lured by the full ball and his eyes light up. Goes hard on the drive and cannot keep the shot along the ground. Hits it hard and low to the left of cover where the substitute fielder, Nitish Kumar Reddy stays low to snaffle it. The Headingley rises in appreciation for a knock that will be remembered for a long time as Ben Duckett walks to the dressing room, scoring 149 (170). England are 253/3 now.

Prasidh Krishna to Ollie Pope, OUT! DRAGGED ON! Ollie Pope will consider himself a bit unfortunate! This is the nip-backer from Prasidh, on a back of a length, on middle, Ollie stays on the back foot and sets up to play it with a straight bat back towards the bowler. The ball jags back in off the deck to catch the inside edge. The ball goes on to hit the back thigh and it deflects back onto the stumps. Wickets in successive overs for Prasidh Krishna, despite being inconsistent with his lengths. England are 206/2, needing 165 more runs.

Shardul Thakur to Harry Brook, OUT! CAUGHT BEHIND! Strangled down the leg side! Two in two for Shardul Thakur and this will uplift the Indian spirits big time. An innocuous delivery, sliding down leg, on a length, Brook walks down the track and gets inside the line for the tickle. Ends up getting a feather on it and Rishabh Pant dives to his left to pouch it. 99 in the first innings but a golden duck in the second for Brook. And now, from 253/2, England have slipped down to 253/4. Shardul is on a hat-trick. 

Ravindra Jadeja to Ben Stokes, OUT! CAUGHT! Ravindra Jadeja finally gets his man! This is tossed up by Jadeja, around the off stump, Stokes reaches out in front and goes hard on the reverse. The ball lands in front of the bat and takes the top edge and it eventually lobs off the shoulder of Stokes. It pops up for an easy catch for Shubman Gill at short third. A timely wicket for India. Stokes falls for 33 (51). England are now 302/5, needing 69 more runs.
