Krishna Satyanarayana Gandlur, the rape accused in Zimbabwe, was part of the post match presentation ceremony in the third ODI between India and Zimbabwe at Harare. Satyanarayana, a consultant with iTeamWorks was arrested along with another Indian, Ravi Krishnan, on June 17 on the charges of rape. While at first, there were reports of two Indian cricketers caught in the saga. While the real names and identity of the accused were unknown at first, they were later confirmed by Zimbabwe Police. Charity Charamba, Senior Assistant Commissioner of Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) was quoted by Indian Express saying, “Krishna Satyanarayana Gandlur and Ravi Krishnan were arrested on Friday from the Meikles Hotel on charges of rape.”
This news came as a big relief after many media houses falsely claimed of an Indian player involved in the alleged incident. After newzimbabwe.com revealed of Indian cricketers’ involvement, media broke the news without having any substantial evidence to back it. But the findings of Zimbabwe Police and statement from BCCI made it clear regarding the situation.
India came to Zimbabwe to play three ODIs and three T20I’s. The ODI series was a one-sided affair as the visitors won all the matches in very convincing fashion. Zimbabwe did show some fight as the T20 series started, winning the first match by two runs. But they were brought back down to earth in the second T20I as India romped home by 10 wickets. The third T20I is scheduled to take place later today.
