India comfortably defeated Ireland by 76 runs in the first T20 International, at Malahide. 209 was always going to be a tough chase for Ireland, but James Shannon fought hard with his innings of 60 off 35 balls after being dropped twice. He got his maiden half-century in just 29 balls. His innings included 5 fours and 4 sixes. However, he was dismissed by Kuldeep Yadav in the 12th over.

Ireland lost Paul Stirling for 1 in the second over of the chase, off Jasprit Bumrah. Stirling, trying to pull from outside off, top-edged to Kuldeep at mid-off. Shannon added 40 with Andrew Balbirnie (11) for the second wicket, but right after the Powerplay overs the Indian spin duo of Kuldeep and Yuzvendra Chahal took over.

Chahal dismissed Balbirnie in his first over, stumped by a mile by MS Dhoni. Kuldeep started with a wicket-maiden and dismissed the well set Shannon leg-before for 60 in his second. The Irish batsmen failed to pick Kuldeep as he finished with impressive figures of 4-1-21-4.

The spinners shared 7 wickets among them with Chahal picking 3 for 38. Among pacers, Bumrah picked up 2 for 19 in his 4 overs. Bhuvneshwar Kumar went wicketless but only conceded 16.

Earlier, India posted a huge 208 after being put to bat by Ireland. Rohit Sharma (97) and Shikhar Dhawan (74) added 160 for the opening wicket. Rohit was unlucky to miss on his 3rd T20I century by 3 runs. Peter Chase starred had figures 4-0-35-4.
