KL Rahul was dismissed soon after making his maiden Test ton, top-edging Mitchell Starc and being caught by the bowler for 110 on Day Three of the fourth Test between India and Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG). Rahul had a horrendous debut Test at Melbourne, where he was dismissed early in both innings. Incidentally, Rahul has batted at three different positions in all three of his Test innings so far; he came in at No. 6 in the first innings at MCG, No. 3 in the second innings, and opened the innings at SCG.

Earlier, Rahul had two big partnerships, first a 97-run stand with No. 3 Rohit Sharma — who was dismissed for 53 — and later with Virat Kohli, who had gone past fifty as well. Kohli was dropped on 59 by Steven Smith, who dropped his second catch of the innings. Kohli and Rahul managed to put on 141 runs.

Earlier, Australia won the toss and chose to bat first on a good looking wicket. The only change in their team was Mitchell Starc replacing Mitchell Johnson. India made four changes to their team. MS Dhoni’s retirement allowed Wriddhiman Saha to don the gloves. Suresh Raina, Rohit and Bhuvneshwar Kumar came in place of Cheteshwar Pujara, Shikhar Dhawan and Ishant Sharma. Rahul managed to hold on to his spot.
