Australia captain Aaron Finch backed premier offspinner Nathan Lyon, who was dropped for the series decider against India at Melbourne on Friday after returning wicketless in the previous two ODIs.

In the opening one-dayer, Lyon went for 50 runs in his 10 over, while in the second ODI, he conceded 59 runs in his full quota of overs. (ALSO READ: Frustrated Finch promises natural aggressive game in 3rd ODI)

“I thought the way Gaz (Lyon) has bowled has been really impressive. He has bowled really well quite defensively, which I think for his role was pretty important,” Finch said on Thursday.
