India took on their eastern neighbors, Bangladesh in Super Six match No.5 of the ICC Women’s World Cup Qualifier 2017. India Eves, looking to gain their sixth straight win of the tournament, won the toss and elected to field first against Bangladesh Women. India strangled their opponents all throughout the innings as Bangladesh managed just 155 runs. India Women, in their playing XI, made just one change as Ekta Bisht was dropped and Mansi Joshi was brought in. Shikha Pandey and Mansi started superbly giving away just 11 runs in the initial seven overs. Mansi picked up the key wicket of Sharmin Sultana for 7 off 22 balls. Mansi soon picked her second wicket in the form of Sanjida Islam, who made just 2 runs. Opener Sharmin Akhter and Fargana Hoque did manage to stabilise the Bangladesh innings, but did not get the scorecard ticking. Deepti Sharma, Poonam Yadav and Rajeshwari Gayakwad managed to continue the good work Indian fast bowlers had put in so far.
Fargana and Sharmin managed to build some sort of platform for the Bangladesh side, contributing 62 plus run-stand for the third wicket. Sharmin’s stay in the middle finally came to an end after Devika Vaidya got her stumped for 35. Skipper Rumana Ahmed came out in the middle to partner Fargana. Rumana’s stay lasted just 23 balls as Shikha grabbed her second wicket.
Nigar Sultana did try to score some quick runs and managed 18 runs before getting run out. Soon, Fargana’s resolute innings came to an end as soon as she reached her 50. Mansi got her third wicket in the form of Fargana.
Salma Khatun added 15-ball 14 before getting bowled by Rajeshwari. Jahanara Alma fell on the last ball making 2 off 5 to Devika Vaidya.
